RIBA Health and Safety Test: Mandatory from January 2025
From 1 January 2025, all practicing RIBA Chartered Members must pass the RIBA Health and Safety Test as part of CPD obligations, covering fire safety, structural safety, and the Building Safety Act.
RIBA has introduced a mandatory Health and Safety Test for all practicing Chartered Members, effective from 1 January 2025.
What the Test Covers
- Fire safety design principles and the regulatory framework post-Grenfell
- Structural safety obligations and the principal designer role
- Building Safety Act 2022: key duties, gateways, and the golden thread
- CDM 2015 principal designer role
- Health and safety in construction and occupancy
Format
The test is delivered online through the RIBA learning platform. Members must achieve a pass mark and completion is recorded in the CPD log.
RIBA CPD Core Curriculum
From 2025, the Core Curriculum requires a minimum of 35 hours CPD per year across 10 mandatory topics.
For Part III Students
Awareness of these requirements is expected in the professional interview, particularly under PC2 (Clients, users, and delivery of services) and PC5 (Legal framework and processes).
